🏛️ UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Colombia has nine UNESCO World Heritage properties — six cultural, two natural, one mixed — plus a substantial list of intangible heritage entries.

Port, Fortresses & Monuments of Cartagena (1984)

The most extensive military architecture of the Spanish Americas: 11 km of walls, San Felipe de Barajas and the bay forts.

Los Katíos National Park (1994)

Chocó rainforest and wetlands on the Panamanian border. Danger-listed at Colombia's own request in 2009 (illegal logging, poaching, overfishing), and removed from the List of World Heritage in Danger on 30 June 2015 once park authorities regained control.

Historic Centre of Santa Cruz de Mompox (1995)

A near-untouched colonial river town on the Magdalena, reached by a long road across the marshes.

San Agustín Archaeological Park (1995)

Several hundred monumental stone figures and tombs carved between roughly 100 BCE and 800 CE.

Tierradentro (1995)

Underground hypogea — painted funerary chambers cut into hillsides, unique in the Americas.

Malpelo Fauna & Flora Sanctuary (2006)

A no-fishing marine reserve 500 km offshore; hammerhead and silky shark aggregations.

Coffee Cultural Landscape (2011)

Six farming landscapes and eighteen urban centres in Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Valle del Cauca.

Qhapaq Ñan — Andean Road System (2014)

Colombia's share of the Inca road network, listed jointly with five other Andean states.

Chiribiquete National Park (2018)

Mixed listing: 4.3 million hectares of Amazon tepuis with tens of thousands of rock paintings and uncontacted peoples. Closed to visitors.

On the intangible list: the Barranquilla Carnival, the cultural space of Palenque de San Basilio, vallenato music, the Blacks and Whites' Carnival of Pasto, the Wayuu normative system, and traditional Amazonian knowledge of the jaguar shamans of Yuruparí.
